In the wonderful world of digital marketing and content promotion, there’s so much for you to see, interact with and share. Your audience is out there and they’re waiting to hear from you.
But if you’re trying to manage your business’s social media or you’re struggling to keep on top of your personal brand, it can be overwhelming. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a list of apps that an agency already uses you could steal ideas from?
Funny you should say that, it’s exactly what we’ve done. We’ve listed out these apps below, and we’ve even put them nicely organised groups for you.
Enjoy!
Social media apps
Apps for Twitter management
Unfollow for Twitter
Compatibility: iOS
Price: Free (but offers in-app purchases)
Why we love it: This is one of the easiest tools to use when it comes to managing Twitter followers. The app breaks down your followers into:
- Didn’t Tweet since
- Don’t follow back
- I don’t follow (watch an ad to unlock or pay £0.99)
- New followers (watch an ad or pay £0.99 to unlock)
- New unfollowers
You can filter each of these sections with specific time periods; so you don’t accidentally unfollow someone you’ve recently engaged with.
Hashtag Friends
Compatibility: iOS
Price: Free (but you can unlock the full version for £0.99)
Why we love it: When we’re searching for new people to follow online, this is one of our go-to apps. It filters results based on the hashtags that have been used in your Twitter feed, so you don’t get lots of people who you’re not going to be interested in.
Eleffant
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free (but you can unlock the full version for £0.99)
Why we love it: Owned by the same company as Hashtag Friends, Eleffant is a tool that we use to help engage with our followers using the #followfriday stream on Twitter.
You connect your account, authorise access and the app gives you a list of followers that haven’t been included in your #ff tweet. You can edit your shoutout, select specific users and exclude users who don’t follow you back. Easy peasy!
Apps for Instagram management
Unfollower
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: Remember, it’s easy enough to think that your followers are all real, but that’s not always the case. We use the Unfollower app for Instagram to make sure that we don’t fall into the trap of following fake accounts or bots.
Simply install the app, update the list and you’ll see who’s recently unfollowed you. With a few clicks on the screen, the work’s done!
Repost
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free (but you can unlock the Pro version for £4.99)
Why we love it: When it comes to social media, it’s all about sharing content and engaging with followers, and that’s where Repost comes in.
It’s easy to use (but you do need an Instagram account to start with) and means that if you find content that your followers would like, you can add the link to Repost, publish the content and credit the original creator!
AutoHashtags
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free (but you can unlock the Pro version for £0.99)
Why we love it: Despite our constant love of all things social, sometimes it’s hard to come up with the right hashtags to increase the reach of an image. That’s where this app comes in.
Simply upload your image and the app gives you a whole bunch of suggested hashtags for you to pick and choose from. It’s so easy; we love it!
Apps for Facebook management
Facebook Pages Manager
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: As a busy marketing and web design agency, there are plenty of Facebook pages that we need to manage, and sometimes having these on the go is the best way to ensure our content is always being published.
You can do all the same stuff you’d be able to do on a desktop, including post updates, engage with followers, respond to messages and comments, and you also have the option to get notified if there’s any activity on the page.
Sometimes the app can be a bit glitchy, but for the ease of use, we can’t knock it too much!
Apps for sourcing content
Medium
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free (but you can upgrade to Medium membership for £4.99 per month)
Why we love it: Since we’re a company of news readers and social media scourers, we love to be kept up to date on all the latest news from around the world. It’s a great source of content, easily compiled in one central location, with content tailored to our likes and interests.
You can share content with your followers, or simply enjoy it on your smartphone, tablet or desktop, wherever you want.
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: When we’re searching for new articles to promote on social media, it’s great to be able to collect them all in one central location. Flipboard gives us that ability.
When you find a news story that’s interesting, you can press + and curate it into your own digital magazine, which you can even share with people who have the same interests as you. It’s great, and it’s completely free, which is even better.
Newsify
Compatibility: iOS
Price: Free (but there are various upgrade options)
Why we love it: With so many news sources available, sometimes it’s hard to keep track of the topics we’re interested in. Newsify gives us the ability to keep all our content in one central app.
You can use this on your Mac desktop, but we prefer it on our phones. You’re able to customise your feeds, download content for offline reading and much, much more.
Apps for creating content
Hype Type
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free (offers in-app purchases to unlock certain features, paid via yearly subscription)
Why we love it: If you’re into giving your social media posts an added “wow” factor, then this app might be for you. This one gives you the ability to add designed motion typography to your images before they’re posted out.
Basically, you put words on the image and they move around, it looks pretty. You can remove the watermark and remove ads for a yearly subscription, which does have its benefits if you’re using it a lot for your business’s social media, but that’s up to you.
Legend
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: Same as Hype Type really, but this option is completely free and doesn’t come with any subscriptions or in-app purchases, making it ideal if you’re just starting out with building a platform and want to showcase your photo skills to your social media following.
Whatever you create can be used on Instagram, Twitter, iMessage, Whatsapp or saved out as a GIF, it’s entirely up to you.
Word Swag
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: £4.99
Why we love it: For the truly social media image conscious, Word Swag should be in your content creation arsenal. Simply input the words that you’d like to appear on your social media post and the app does the rest.
The final result looks very professional, and you can choose the style of layout before the image is saved. The images can be used on most social media platforms, and for a one-off purchase, we can’t complain.
Giphy
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: Who doesn’t love a good GIF? Seriously, if you’re still umm-ing and ahh-ing, you should see how often our content team communicate solely through GIFs.
This app lets you include clips into your messages, your social media posts and your emails, and with an easy-to-use search functionality, it makes adding humour to your content easier than ever before.
Mematic
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free (upgrade to Mematic Pro Monthly for £2.49, or Mematic Pro Yearly for £16.49)
Why we love it: Sometimes Memes are the only way that you can describe how you’re feeling in a light-hearted, jokey way. That’s why we love Mematic.
With access to thousands upon thousands of popular images, you can use their stock photography or use your own pictures to create funny memes, perfect for highlighting brand personality or increasing engagement online.
The memes you create can be used on social media, or downloaded and sent through Whatsapp or text message too.
Enlight
Compatibility: iOS
Price: £3.99
Why we love it: When it comes to showcasing that perfect photo, sometimes the amount of time can soon outweigh the results. However, Enlight is one app that we use on a weekly basis. It’s ideal if you’re promoting a product or (if you’re in the travel industry) showcasing a holiday destination, and it comes with plenty of useful features.
These include image perfection, filters, black and white photography and so much more. It’s easy to use, but it might take some practice before your pictures are ready to share, but the results are worth it.
Apps to help keep you organised
Wunderlist
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: Well, if we’re honest, it’s because we’re obsessed with lists (or at least certain members of our team are, we’re looking at you content creators). Anyway, Wunderlist is a free app that lets you keep track of your to-dos, and even gives you the option of creating folders to keep your lists in.
As an added bonus, you’re able to invite other people using the app to contribute to or complete items on your list. Simply save their email in your phone, open the app, hit share and it does the rest for you. We love it. It’s easy to use and means we don’t have to rely on bits of paper.
GoodReader
Compatibility: iOS
Price: £4.99
Why we love it: Many of us work on the move, and GoodReader is the perfect tool for keeping track of all our important documents.
Compatible with all Microsoft Office formats, as well as TXT and HTML, you’re able to edit, annotate, read and manage all of your files from your smartphone or tablet. You can even transfer your files to your computer via WiFi or USB, so you don’t lose any of the progress or work you’ve already done.
CamFind
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: We’ve all been there, we see something we like or we’re at a meeting and someone can’t remember where they got that cool [insert whatever it is you’re searching for here, no this isn’t a note for us, it’s a note for you].
We love CamFind because all we have to do is take a picture of the item you’re looking for and it will automatically search the Internet to help you discover what it is, and where you can get your hands on one.
This is particularly useful if you’ve seen a piece of marketing collateral and want to know where you can get one made too.
Stocard
Compatibility: iOS and Android
Price: Free
Why we love it: Now this one isn’t strictly to do with social media, content creation or business-related, but we do love to be organised, especially when it comes to our loyalty cards.
Instead of having numerous pieces of plastic in your wallet/purse, you can have them all in one, simple to use app. It’s completely free, so all you need to do is scan your card when you get to the shop and you’ll never miss out on those money-saving points!
